Planting

Always, always plant the cuttings into moist growing media. Planting a garden mum cutting into dry media is a sure way to reduce its initial growth and future potential. When planting rooted cuttings in today’s well-drained root media, it is acceptable to plant them slightly deeper to cover the roots and some of the stem. However, planting too deep in poorly drained field soil or other soil-based media may retard growth and aid in the development
of certain diseases, which may result in the death of the plant.
Thoroughly water the plants immediately after planting with fertilizer solution. Allowing garden mum cuttings to wilt will inhibit their takeoff, future branching action and overall growth. It is beneficial to mist or syringe the plants frequently for the first few days, or until the plants are fully turgid and the roots are absorbing water.
Liquid fertilization at planting time helps get the plant off to a vigorous start. A rooted Yoder garden mum cutting is capable of utilizing liquid fertilizer from the moment it is planted. Always water-in freshly planted cuttings with a complete N-P-K fertilizer containing 300 to 400 ppm of nitrogen immediately after planting.
