Growing Media

There are many types of good soilless growing media available. Garden mum growing media should be loose, well drained and provide a solid anchor for the root system. The growing media must retain sufficient moisture and nutrients to sustain the plant between irrigations and fertilizations. It must also have sufficient pore space to drain away excess moisture after irrigation. The pH for soilless media should be 5.8 to 6.2 (soil-based media should have a higher pH of 6.2 to 6.8). The use of redwood in the mix is not recommended as it appears to affect plant growth.
