Containers

There are a variety of container sizes used in garden mum production. Cell packs (18, 24,
32 cells), handle baskets and 3" to 6" pots are widely used for spring sales. Plastic and fiber pots in sizes from 6" to 8" are used, along with
1-, 1½- and 2-gallon nursery containers for summer and fall sales. The most common pot sizes are 8" x 5" mum pans and 1- and 1½-gallon nursery containers. Many growers are finding increased demand for attractive terra cotta-looking containers, especially in 10- 12- and 14" sizes. As a general rule, you will find that the larger the container is, the larger the finished plant will be. Containers such as the ones mentioned here are available from many horticultural supply companies. We recommend using new containers each year. If leftover containers are used, they must be properly cleaned and sanitized before use
to prevent possible disease issues with the crop.
