The Schedule

Consider these three schedules as you
plan your crops.
- Traditional – Plant one cutting per container (8" or equivalent) approximately June 1 to 15. Pinch once, when ready, approximately 10 to 14 days after planting.
- No-Pinch Labor Saver – Plant one cutting per container (8" or equivalent) approximately June 5 to 20. DO NOT PINCH. See production details for No-Pinch Garden Mums on this website for more information.
- Late Crop Time Saver – Plant two cuttings per container (8" or equivalent) approximately June 28 to July 10. No Pinch or pinch once, when ready, approximately 10 to 14 days after planting. Plant the two cuttings close together (about 2 fingers apart), or side by side.
Any of the above programs provide for plants with excellent head size and flower dates comparable to the same varieties planted in late May or early June. The later two programs offer opportunities to reduce or eliminate labor, reduce fertilizer, water and pesticides with a shorter crop time, improve plant habit and uniformity by planting the cuttings into warmer weather, to let you concentrate on finishing your spring sales.
If you are still planting garden mums in May, a change will improve your crop
